Family Services

Granny and two young girls

This image portrays a grandmother who has taken her two grandchildren due to parental loss and represents some of the types of families we help. We take it very seriously to keep the privacy of the vulnerable families we are working.

Adoption Support

Fostering/adoption (including kinship care, where an extended family member or friend cares for the children full time) comes with a unique set of challenges for a family. Some children may find it hard to connect with their new family due to the trauma they have experienced, leading to behavioural and emotional struggles. There is no magic wand, but there are practical things we can do and teach the parents to help them understand the pain behind the behaviour. We can then help them learn to regulate their children, build connections and see a positive change to daily family life.

Post-natal Support

Some new mothers may experience difficulties due issues such as post-partum depression* or due to the mothers own traumas that are triggered by the start of her parental journey. We can be a support during this time.

*We are not doctors and if we or the family suspect this to be an issue we would encourage the mother to seek out professional help.

Family Crisis

We can help children in families who are going through troubling circumstances such as the death of a parent, divorce, or being/have been exposed to substance abuse.*

*We are not equipped to deal help a parent with substance abuse disorder and would encourage the family to seek professional help. Our goal would be to confirm the children are safe (if we believe the children are in danger the relevant authorities would be contacted), and then to help them and their supporting adults.
